Frances Schneider

Frances was born on March 9, 1938 in Prelate, SK. She went to school at Bakerville. She grew up in the Lemsford area until she married John Schneider on August 23, 1955. She always talked about John driving a truck with a little green light on the mirror during their courting years… she knew it was him coming up the road to pick her up. After they were married, Frances and John moved to the Schneider homestead ten miles north of Fox Valley. There she spent her time raising their four children, Leo, Linda, Stanley and Gerald, helping farm, and selling milk and eggs. In 1987, her and John moved into Fox Valley and she was widowed in the same year. In 2017 she moved to Medicine Hat. She enjoyed her new-found friends during her short time living in Chinook Village. Frances passed away on February 1, 2018 in St. Joseph’s Hospice in Medicine Hat with her family at her bedside. Frances’ love for her family was the most important thing in her life and that did not waiver right up until the end. We will forever remember her making chicken noodle soup on Sundays, homemade buns and beetnicks. She loved entertaining whether it was a planned visit or you showed up unannounced. She always kept an endless supply of food on hand along with a well-stocked liquor cabinet. She was stubborn in that she would not take no for an answer! The great grandkids loved being spoiled with gum, candy, chips and dip, and pop. Shane, Chris and Scott remember dunking bread in chokecherry jam mixed with cream during their childhood sleepovers at grandma and papa’s. And we all recall the infamous mixture of chips in the old ice cream bucket at her house! We all share a laugh remembering how proud grandma was of her prized possession, her carpet sweeper. She would even try convincing us of its worth by throwing crumbs on the floor and demonstrating how well it cleaned them up! Frances had many hobbies including quilting, cooking, baking, playing cards, gardening and yard work, jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, and collecting coins. Spending time with her family and friends was important to her. She spent many hours on the telephone during her daily or weekly phone calls to friends and relatives near and far. During the last year of her life Frances grew very close to her sister, Kathy. She truly cherished their relationship and always got a kick out of Wilf’s stories. Frances enjoyed shopping with her lady friends. Driving around countryside looking at the crops in the summer time was a true love as well. Even though she never drove herself, she was very proud of her learner’s license. Frances had a strong faith in God. She was a member of the CWL for 35 years and took great pride in making numerous baby quilts for Birthrite every year. Frances will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family. Unfortunately, her daughter Linda and son-in-law Greg are unable to be here today due to health reasons. We will all hold in our hearts Grandma’s favorite saying and last words, “love you all a whole big bunch”.
