Barbara Ann Teigen (nee Schafer). 1920-2018

Barbara passed away peacefully at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Jan. 12, 2018.

Barbara was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Consul, Sask., to Michael and Clementina Schafer and grew up in the Senate district with five brothers and three sisters. She married Gordon Teigen on Oct. 23, 1946 in Plentywood, Montana, and together raised their family on the farm at Robsart. In 1980, they retired and moved to Maple Creek, where Barbara resided until her death. She was predeceased by Gordon; her brothers Adam, Steve, Matthew and John; sisters Frances Schafer, Elizabeth Peoples and Theresa Wilnechenko; and her special friend Paul Desjardins. She is survived by her brother Louis, daughters Jeannie (Ken), Blanche (Bob), Marianne (Tom), Doreen (Glenn), Arlene (Terry), and son Bradley (Leanne). Barbara also leaves a legacy of nearly 100 grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly.  

Barbara’s family wishes to express its gratitude for your kind thoughts and deeds. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s memory to the Maple Creek Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion or the Salvation Army.

We, the family of the late Barbara Teigen, wish to express heartfelt thanks to those who showed their support sending food, flowers, the many phone calls and kind words. This was and is a difficult time and your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated. Thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion for the use of their hall and to Captain Ed of the Salvation Army for officiating the service, your words of comfort and understanding was felt by our family and for that we are grateful. We extend our gratitude to those who participated in the service, the grandchildren for being the pallbearers, to Bradley Teigen for the eulogy, to Marcie Cole and Mrs. Dean for their singing, Barett Kristjanson for the pianist, and Micheal and David Washburn for doing the slide show. This was all a great tribute to Mom, Also thank you for the wonderful lunch following the ceremony. We were sincerely moved by the care and attention that mom received from the doctors, nurses and staff at the Maple Creek Hospital and at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.  Thank you to Binkley's Funeral Service of Maple Creek for your guidance, suggestions and professional mannerism, it was a great comfort to our family and for this we are grateful. Mom was truly blessed to have such good neighbors and friends for that we are so thankful.
