June Filthaut, (Kobitz), was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan on June 17, 1933. She entered Heaven’s gates on March 02, 2018 to be reunited with her husband Henry, her partner Ray and her parents, John and Victoria Kobitz.
A consummate mother, homemaker and business women, June was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Over the years she kept her family in touch with their heritage of good Ukrainian food introducing some traditions that will be continued by her grandchildren. June and Henry Filthaut opened Henry’s bakery in Maple Creek and Swift Current where June became well known for her skills at cake decoration. Wedding and Anniversary cakes were her specialty. June took much joy in knowing her cakes were the centerpieces for so many happy occasions. June also loved crafts and travelling. Family and friends homes are filled with crocheted blankets and doilies along with baskets, Kleenex boxes and fridge magnets made with plastic canvas. June and her partner Ray spent many years travelling between Swift Current and Mesa Arizona where they joined other SK friends.
June had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of St Lawrence Catholic Church and enjoyed the Diamond C Cowboy Church in Maple Creek. The music and poetry readings were one of her favorite events.
June was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Henry J Filthaut. She was also predeceased by her partner of 38 years Ray Reeder in 2010. June is survived by her sisters, Violet Kaglea and Dolores Duncan; her sons Blaine and Terry and daughter Karen. 7 grandchildren also survive June: Tara, Julie-Anne, David, Colton, Raina, Landon, and Denise. June has 2 great grandchildren, Marie-Eve and Matthew.
