George Yarshenko Obituary

George James Yarshenko was born January 13, 1927 to Fred and Katherine Yarshenko. He was raised in Bear Creek and attended school. He was rather a scholar, and I think, had he been born in another time, university would have been for him.

He was married to Fern in 1950, and had 4 children. They ranched for over 50 years in the Cypress Hills and raised black angus cattle. A lover of all wildlife and nature. He enjoyed growing things, particularly onions and potatoes. All his life, he would work with and love horses. He was very fond of cats, and all dogs loved him, but, it wasn’t until later in life he seemed to really love them back.

He had a soft spot for women, and would often say they were the smarter, tougher, as well as the fairer sex. Growing up, the daughter to the man with that outlook gave us a healthy self-esteem. I am sure most women will tell you, no man lives up to their dad, but I can safely say, his views on women, put him way up there in my book.

He was tough as nails, enduring many injuries and surviving all manor of mishaps. I cannot count how many trips were made to the ER to relocate his shoulder. It could very well be he broke every bone in his body at one point or another. He had an ability to heal like no other and this may have been simple positive thought. He was a cowboy, he was a rancher. He was a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and so much more.

It is simple there was no one like him. We will miss him forever and are so glad that we had him in our lives. Whenever there is a witty joke, a simple kindness, or a lady’s smile, I will think of you dad. You taught us so many things, while we weren’t even looking. Made us laugh without even trying, and grew older with us.

Wait for us, Dad, until we get there. One by one we will be called home. I’m sure you will have the horses saddled, and waiting in heaven. We will meet you at the gate.
