Marjorie Harron Obituary

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Marjorie Vivian Harron. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 24, 2019 at Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre.

Mom was born on March 5, 1922 at home in the Garden Head district. She attended Stonepile School and then had to board in Shaunavon to take grades 11 and 12. She received her teacher’s certificate in 1942 at Moose Jaw Normal School. She taught at several schools on the “North Bench” and at South Forks.

Mom married Elmer Harron on December 29th, 1945 at Coleman, Alta. Dad received his discharge from the Army in January of 1946 and they moved to the North Bench where Dad farmed and Mom taught for the next 10 years. Mom always remembered fondly the years on the Bench; the school kids, the good friends and neighbors, the xmas parties and the card games.

In 1956 they left the Bench and Dad went to work on the CPR. During the next 8 years we lived in South Fork, Climax, and Frontier. We moved to Eastend in 1963 and have been here ever since.

Mom worked at Wolf Willow for a number of years, then she did Home Care and finally at the library until she retired in 1987. She loved working at the library as one of her greatest pleasures was reading. She also loved bingo and crossword puzzles.

Mom volunteered at Wolf Willow until her late 80’s when she decided the “young folks” could do it.

Mom fell and broke her hip in 2018 and had to enter Wolf Willow. When she was learning to walk again, she slipped and fell and broke her leg (same one) and as a consequence was confined to a wheel chair. Which took her a while to come to terms with, as the staff at the centre can attest to. Thank you to the whole staff for your patience, kindness and understanding. It was greatly appreciated by Marge’s family.

Mom was predeceased by her father Art McKay, her mother Amy McKay (Dafoe) and her brothers Cliff and Lorne. She was also predeceased by her husband Elmer Harron and her oldest son Arthur Harron and his wife Heather McLean.

She is survived by her children Violet Kohl, David Harron (Kathy McGuire), and Kathy Harron. Her grandchildren James and Laurence Harron, Rene Kohl and Sherri Glen, Crystal Workman and Rachelle Harron and Jenna McGuire and Corey Harron. Her great grandchildren Courtney, Kristopher, Kyle and Samantha, Harron, Kiana Kohl, Preston McGuire and Maison Workman and Michelle Cullins.
