Mary Jennie (Skye) Elliott

Gramma Mary was born and raised in the Cardell district she went to the country school and later went to high school in Maple Creek. She worked part time at the hospital while she was going to school.  She trained on the job as a nurse’s aide under Miss Gillowd, her matron.  After she worked at the hospital full time for a few years.

She married Bob Elliott in 1950 and moved out to the ranch where she enjoyed open spaces and a love of nature, looking after baby calves, raising chickens, milking cows, gardening, sewing and reading.

In 1951, son Dave was born and Vern in 1955.  As the boys grew up, they were great help on the ranch.  They went to many rodeos where the boys participated and they enjoyed many fishing trips.

Dave and Sue took over the ranch in 1981 and Vern and Mona moved to Vernon BC in 1976 where they operated their Western Store. 

In 1979 Gramma and Grampa bought a house in Maple Creek where she enjoyed bible study and met new friends.  She worked with Christian women, stone croft ministries Alpha Course and her church family.  She helped many elderly ladies with shopping, visiting and taking them to church and Bob took up gardening at the ranch as long as he was able.

Gramma and Grampa spent lots of time out at the Ranch helping Dave and Sue and took many holidays with Vern and Mona going to rodeos and hockey games.  Gramma and Grampa enjoyed special visits from their grandchildren and later their great grandchildren.
