Betty Zentner

Betty was born on March 24, 1930 in the town of Bengough in south-central Saskatchewan and grew up on a mixed farm near Coronach. Her father, Clifford, was a strapping Norwegian
outdoorsman and her mother, Fannie Ivy, was a southern belle originally from Georgia. Betty had a happy childhood on the farm with older brother Emmett, younger brother Gene and
younger sister Faye. After finishing high school in Coronach, she attended normal school in Moose Jaw and then accepted her first teaching position in Vidora, Saskatchewan. Here she
met a dashing young farmer from nearby Senate -- her future husband, Chris Zentner. Chris and Betty were married on July 8, 1952 in Coronach and began life together on the farm
near Senate. Together they raised six children on the farm - 5 boys (Clark, Stewart, Lorne, Alvin, and Jeffrey), and then to their delight, a daughter (Dawn Ivy) several years later. Chris
and Betty retired to Maple Creek in 1978 where Betty lived out her years, 39 years in the same house on 3rd Avenue and the last three at the Cypress Lodge. 

To Betty, the most important things in life were Faith, Family and Friends. Betty converted to Catholicism in 1952 when she married Chris and continued to grow in her faith throughout her life. She was active in the parish and CWL in Consul and Maple Creek, joyfully offering her time to visit and care for others, make and deliver meals, volunteer at the church, and many other acts of service. Betty loved and cared for all family members, providing for physical and emotional needs, and praying constantly for each one. She was a dear friend to many over the years, always with simplicity and a warm smile. Service was her way of expressing love. 

Betty loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to go anywhere with friends or family. She visited many places in Canada and the United States, and overseas to Great Britain, France, Italy, Austria, Mexico and the Holy Land. Always looking for adventure, she went ziplining at the age of 80 and rode her first camel at 85! Her other passions were baking, hosting big traditional Christmas dinners, playing cards and just spending time with family and friends. 

Betty was a light in the world, and no one was left unchanged by their encounter with her. Rest in peace, Gentle One. Thank you to all who made Betty’s last days and years so lovely, especially to Jeanie and staff at Cypress Lodge.

Betty is survived by brother Gene (Shirley) and sister Faye, her children Clark (Cathie), Stewart (Susan), Lorne (Sandi) and Dawn (Willem), daughter-in-law Lydia, grandchildren
Kent, Kristine, David, Julia, Madalyn, Lindsay and Laura, and great grandchildren Bronx, Emerson and Holden. She was predeceased by her husband Chris, brother Emmett and
sons, Alvin and Jeffrey.

Guests attending the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. will be seated in the church hall to maintain proper social distancing.
