Elaine Peterson Obituary

Elaine Josephine Peterson age 85, formerly of Tompkins passed away in Swift Current at Cypress House on December 19, 2018.

 Elaine was born Aug. 25, 1933 to James and Mary Johanson in Maple Creek.  She spent her first 6 years in Hattan, Alta until her family moved to Tompkins in 1939 where her father James became a C.P.R. section foreman.                                                                                                 

 Elaine spent her schooling years in Tompkins. She loved music and learned to play piano, and at a young age began playing with her father in an orchestra. Her father James played violin, Elaine on piano, Annie Tundgren and Lloyd Rathwell on guitars are her future husband to be Alvin Peterson on accordion.

 Elaine married Alvin Peterson on November 17, 1951 in St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Tompkins. The first winter of their marriage was spent in Tompkins while Alvin was employed hauling coal to oil rigs working south of the Skull Creek district. In the spring of 1952, Elaine and Alvin moved to their farm south east of Tompkins where they remained until 1981 when they semi retired until 2003 when son Raymond began farming the land.

 Through the years Elaine loved curling and participated in many bonspiels in the passing years. She always had a love for playing bingo and in the early years many car bingos were attended. Later in life she enjoyed bowling in Gull Lake and trips to the casino in Medicine Hat.

Elaine never lost the love of music and in earlier times played lots of dances in the Southwest Sask Orca.

 After moving to Tompkins, she was active in the Tompkins Seniors Club. She spent many hours playing cards and taking her turn hosting the Seniors Club. She also spent many hours with other seniors in making of the Tompkins history book. Elaine was a devoted member of the Anglican Church and spent many hours with the A.C.W. hosting meals as well as duties she took on within the church.

 Elaine is predeceased by her parents and only sibling Freda.

 Elaine is lovingly remembered by her husband Alvin and four sons Raymond (Holly) Peterson, grandchildren Shawna (Shaun), James, and great grandchildren Ethan and Chelsea; Annette (Jodi) Callier and their children Chase and Ava; Amanda (Jason) Burger and their children Hanna and Avery. Roy (Cheryl) Peterson and their children Megan and Melony. Jerry (Dawnette) Peter and their son Mitchell. Tim (Tanya) Peterson.

 A funeral service was held December 29, 2018 at the Tompkins Community Center with Eleanor Rockabar officiating. Interment took place at the Tompkins Cemetery.
