JACOBSON, JULIA ROSALIA
It is with great sadness that the family of Julia Jacobson announces her passing on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the age of 89. Mom was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed. Julia was born on July 23, 1930 to Lorry and Rosalia Yatzik in Divide, Saskatchewan. Julia was the second youngest of four daughters - Mary Cuikalo, Blanche Grevna, and Josephine Wardberg.
Growing up on the farm, mom quickly developed her cooking skills and a passion for gardening both of which she carried throughout her life. After completing school, she met and married Amos Jacobson.
Together with Amos, they raised six children - Cheryl, Debbie, Larry, Rennie, Warren and Wade. In addition to being a homemaker, mom also worked at the I-21 junction Cafe and IGA Coffee Bar where her reputation as an excellent pie maker started. In fact, a certain judge from Swift Current travelled regularly to Maple Creek just for a piece of her pie.
In her later years, mom worked at the Maple Creek Hospital where she developed many lifelong friendships. Despite maintaining a busy household, mom had a passion for gardening - much to the delight of her children and grandchildren who benefited directly from the bounty of her garden in the fall.
After her retirement, mom continued her passion for gardening, making dishcloths, baking cinnamon buns, crocheting afghans for her grandchildren and of course, doing her puzzle books which she was seldom seen without.
Pre-deceased by her parents, husband Amos and sister Blanche, she leaves to mourn her passing her children: Cheryl Lightfoot (Alvin); Debbie Lockard (Robert); Larry (Lynn); Rennie Foglia (Natal); Warren (Yvette); and Wade. In addition she is survived by her five grandchildren: Kim Lightfoot (Diane); Jenny Nelson (Graham); Dean Lockard (Coralie); Mark Jacobson (Kyra); and Nicole Jacobson. And five great grandchildren: Colby and Madison Lockard and Lucas, Gavin and Fiona Nelson.
Funeral service will be held at Binkley’s Funeral Home in Maple Creek on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 1 pm. Internment will follow at the Maple Creek Cemetery with a lunch and refreshments immediately following in the Salvation Army Hall.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make memorial donations in Julia’s name to the Saskatchewan Regional Office of Diabetes Canada.
