Laureen Ramona (Kary) Meier

Laureen’s journey on this earth ended December 7, 2018 after a lengthy illness at the age of 87 years.  She was born, eldest of five girls, to Henry and Emilia Kary in Hanna, Alberta on Feburary 20, 1931. 

Left to cherish her memory are daughters Cherryl (Daryl) Walter,children Sara (Jerad) Davis and Kristen (Curtis) Haigh and Kathryn (Earl) Western, children Rachael (Caleb) Robinson and Lauryn; son, Doug (Bonnie) Meier; great granddaughter Isabelle Haigh who she met for the first time this past June;  sisters Bernice Yost, Clara Larsen, Betty (Paul) Ungless and Selma (Fred) Nudd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Laureen was predeceased by her husband Walter and grandson David.

Laureen began her office career by working in the Alberta Bank as a young woman.  She met Walter Meier and they were married June 12, 1954.  She moved to Leader with her new husband to begin life in farming.  She will be remembered as a very hard working person who paid attention to detail.  She worked in the Crop Insurance office and loved her job.  She was gifted in sewing, crafts, baking and making wonderful meals for her family.  She loved her granddaughters dearly and was very proud of each of their accomplishments.  Laureen’s faith in God was deep and unshakable. 

In the last five years of her life, Laureen struggled with numerous health issues and earned the name “tough cookie” by her care givers throughout her stays in Royal University Hospital.  The last year of her life was spent in the Leader and District Integrated Healthcare Facility where she received loving care by the staff as her illnesses progressed.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leader and District Integrated Healthcare Facility, Box 129, Leader, SK  S0N 1H0; Cheques payable to Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Binkley’s Funeral Home.
