Douglas Lowell East passed away on October 5,2024 in Maple Creek Hospital long-term care at the at age of 86. Doug was born in Eastend, SK on August 22, 1938. Predeceased by his parents Lowell and Kathleen East and brother David. Survived by his loving partner Margaret and brother Dale. Doug was the eldest child in his family and was raised on a farm in the Stone District in his early years. Then the family moved to the Battle School District where Doug attended school. Douglas worked for his father and neighbours doing ranching and haying. In 1956, Doug went to work for Kate Shuard on her ranch and later he purchased the ranch in 1961. In 1971 Doug also purchased a section of land, the Peterson Place. Doug ranched for 46 years and was a life-time member with the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association. In 1984, Doug met his partner Margaret Geiger nee Friday. They lived together on Doug’s ranch and in 2003, retired and moved to a home in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, where he resided until his passing. He will be missed by all who loved him and knew him.
Memorial Service will be held at the Maple Creek Salvation Army Church at 2pm on October 11, 2024. Following the service the family invites everyone in attendance to join them in the Church Hall for light lunch and a time to share memories.
