Dulcie Arndt Obituary

Dulcie was born in the Consul area on the farm on January 15, 1930, to parents Gilbert and Annie Mapstone (nee Mapstone). She had six brothers and one sister. Dulcie lived in a big house near Battle Creek and soon learned to garden, make pies, and help with the many chores. She spoke often of the fun times, the love, laugher and admiration she had for her parents and siblings. Dulcie started at the country school Oxarat at age six, and by age twelve she became the janitor. Riding her horse early to school in all kinds of weather to chop wood, start the fire, gather coal and water, and clean the school and barn. She often spoke of all the hard work done at an early age.

Dulcie quit school around grade eight to care for a teacher’s family with three young children. She would stay on their place during the week and her father would pick her up on the weekends. At age sixteen she moved to Maple Creek and began work at the hospital cleaning floors (on hands and knees) and doing kitchen duties. At age twenty, she married Allan Burton on October 19, 1952 and they had two sons, Wayne in April 1954 and Garry in September 1957. They were divorced in 1962 Dulcie continued to work in various capacities in the hospital but soon became a nurse’s aid working shift work. She proudly drove her 1962 Comet she bought herself.

On November 4, 1967, she married Norman Arndt. Dulcie loved to curl, play bingo, watch her sons in all their activities and travel. She loved her family, was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Dulcie was always a happy person with a bright smile who loved life.

She was predeceased by her parents Gilbert and Annie, her husband Norman, her brothers Norman, Harry, Douglas, Chester, Gordon, and sister Beda. She is survived by her brother Raymond (Laverne) and sister-in-law Doreen as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her sons Wayne (Susan) Burton, Garry (Shona) Burton. Dulcie loved and cherished her four grandchildren Trent (Janice) Burton, Jenna (Ray) Moore, Brooke Burton (Steve McKillop), and Lisa (Derek) Scott. She adored her great grandchildren Sadie and Eloise Moore (Burnaby, BC), Archer and Carys Burton (Regina, SK), Oaklynn, Kennedy, Hayes, Ayda and Stetson McKillop (Regina, SK).

Dulcie moved into Southview Manor 10 years ago. She enjoyed all the residents who soon became like family to her. She loved to play the marble game, cards and enjoyed the coffee groups and all the activities. She lived a very independent life and being in the Manor allowed her to remain in her own home until her passing.

One of her favorite things to do was to have a wiener roast at Cypress Hills Park, surrounded by family and her grand-dogs. The dogs always ended up getting their own roasted hotdog and the rest of us were treated to a Dulcie giggle while she denied all culpability.

Her family will miss her so much and will always cherish the legacy of love she left on our hearts. We would like to thank home care and Dr. Governdor for their care. Thank you to all her friends who had many memories shared together. Rest in peace sweet Granny. We will carry your precious memory in our hearts forever.

Dear Granny, may you always know how much we all loved you.
