It is with profound sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their dear Mother, Grandmother, Mother in law, Sister and Aunt at the Medicine Hat hospital after brief stay with health complications.
Elsie was born Sept 28, 1931 on her parent’s ranch north of Eastend. She grew up there attending Klintonel, Battle and Eastend schools. After attending Normal teachers’ school in Moose Jaw, she taught at Murraydale and Klintonel schools for nine (9) years as well as periodic substitute teaching in Eastend and at the West Bench Hutterite Colony. While teaching at Murraydale she met her Husband George Shanley Galbraith in 1952 and married in 1954. They moved to her parent’s farm north of Eastend in 1957 and bought their own nearby ranch in the valley in 1960 where they lived for 41 years, raised their family and drove school bus. They sold the ranch and semi-retired to a smaller place north of Maple Creek in 2001, then finally settled into full retirement in 2013 when they moved into Maple Creek. Elise resided at the Cypress Lodge for the last two years, her family is very grateful to Jeannie and all her staff for the love and wonderful care and companionship provided there.
Faith, family and friends were important to Elsie spending many evenings and holidays visiting and hosting parents, sisters, her boys and all their families, as well as for many years keeping in touch with old friends and neighbors through letters and travelling to visit them whenever possible. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, being outdoors, painting and doing all types of arts and crafts. She was a proficient artist, with skill and passion she passed onto her Grandchildren. She also enjoyed old-time dancing with George, travel and observing all details about the places traveled and capturing her life in photos.
Left to rejoice her memory but mourn her loss are her son’s: Wes (Carol) - their children Davin (Bobbi-Jo) and great grandchildren Tatum and Kayleb; Karla (Monte) and great grandchildren Nash and Josie,
Kelly – his children Lacey (Jim) and great granddaughter Charlotte; Mark (Christa) and great grandchildren Braylen and Easton and their Mother Odette Galbraith, Tim (Laura) - their children Kelsey (Will) and Toni (Matt) and great grandchild (Daphne), John (Joann) - their children Kyle, Lise (Kyle), and Cole, sisters Ellen Stork and Carolyn Wehr, Sister in-law Dorothy McFarlane, and brother in-law Pat Galbraith (Shirley) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
