It comes with great sadness for us to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother Guy Murphy.
Guy was born in Swift Current, SK on July 24, 1942 to Bud and Mayme Murphy of Neville, SK
From an early age, Guy developed a love for horses and cattle as well as hockey. At the age of 15 he left home to play an extensive junior hockey career in Moose Jaw and Weyburn. He eventually played semi-pro for San Fransisco Seals.
His love for the cowboy lifestyle eventually brought him home where he worked at the Matador near Kyle. In the winters he coached and played in Frontier, Beechy, and Val Marie.
Guy was one of the first members of the CCA Rodeo Association, competing in Saddle Bronc Riding and receiving his GOLD card in 2007.
In 1970 he married Ardene Rose and together started their married life. In the spring of 1976 Guy secured the position as manager of the Martin Grazing Co-op north of Maple Creek
There Guy and Ardene raised their two sons Trevor (1975) and Cody (1977). They would spend the next 35 years together there. The lonesome cold winters brought Guy to return to his hobbies of rawhide braiding and leatherwork to pass the time. He made quality horse equipment for people all over Canada and the United States.
It was something he genuinely enjoyed and never hesitated to take time to teach anyone that wanted to learn, including his sons. For at least 25 years, his hand-braided rawhide gear could be seen at the Maple Creek Western Art and Gear Show.
Another passion being rodeo Guy opened the chute gates at Maple Creek Rodeos for 35 years, having never missed a performance.
He especially enjoyed spring brandings and fall round-ups. He was always willing to lend a hand and shared a story over a cold one!
In 2012, Guy and Ardene retired to Maple Creek where he continued his hobbies.
Guy passed away peacefully at the age of 81 in Swift Current, SK on July 11, 2024.
Guy is survived by his wife Ardene, sons Trevor (Dana), Grandchildren Kane, Ty, Sydney of Maple Creek, SK and Cody (Jessica) Grandchildren McKenna, and Rowen of Lethbridge, AB.
Sisters Donna Shaw of Kelowna, BC, and Penny (Doug) Sherman of Calgary, AB.
Predeceased by his parents Bud and Mayme, brother Terry and sister Lorna.
In honor of Guy’s wishes, there will be no public funeral service.
