Hazel Major Obituary

On the 8th of September, 2021 Hazel Major of Maple Creek, SK, and long-time resident of Glentworth, SK, passed away surrounded by loving family in Maple Creek, SK at the age of 87.

Grandma was born on August 1st, 1934 to William and Myrtle Ross in Forester, Saskatchewan. She shared many stories of a daring and adventurous childhood that she shared with seven siblings. Grandma was the sixth child in a family of eight.

Grandma attended school in Forester until 1942, when her family moved to Sylvania to farm. In 1948, the family moved to McKague, Saskatchewan where her father William purchased the McKague Hotel. This is where she met our beloved Pops, Laurier James Major.

Laurier and Hazel were married on August 15th, 1949 and they were blessed in life with five children; three sons: Jim, Albert, and Terry, and two daughters: Debbie and Rosemary.

In 1953, the family moved to Lloydminster with C.P. Rail and spent the next few years moving around different areas of Saskatchewan with C.P.R. In 1960, they settled in Glentworth, Saskatchewan to manage the C.P. Station. Grandma worked in Glentworth at the COOP Store, Wilkinson’s Store, and at the Royal Hotel over these years, as well. She was a hardworking gal…

In 1970, the Station closed and the family bought a farm just outside of Glentworth. They loved and enjoyed mixed farming until retirement in 2004. The U-Pick Saskatoon business they started with their son, Jim, has some very special memories for all of us. Grama and Pop both drove school buses for 28 years. Grama spent 22 years as a Post Mistress with Canada Post, first in Fir Mountain and then in Glentworth.

Together, Grama and Pop worked hard, enjoyed an abundance of family and friends, and lived fully. Grama could be found cooking, cleaning, and working at 3:00AM any day of the week or weekend. In 2004, they retired together to Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. Sadly, Laurier passed away in 2007.

In 2017, Grama made her final move to a retirement home in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. Grama was a very devoted and active Catholic in all aspects of her life, all the days of her life.

Grandma was predeceased by her Father William Ross, and Mother Myrtle Wells (1940); Step-Mother Mary; Siblings Isabelle, Bernice, Evalyne, Jean, Ruby, Donald and Lawrence; Husband Laurier; and Son Jim.

She is survived by Daughter-in-Law Bonnie (Jim) Major and children Nathan, Jeremy (Kama, McKenzie, Morgan, Mikayla) and Cale (Melody, Jamie).

Son Albert (Gail) Major and children Derek (Candince, Kaleigh, Hudson) and Rochelle (Omar, Zayd).

Son Terry Major and children Lisa (Kelly, Kaitlyn, Olivia) and Crystal (Jesse, Nova, Coven).

Daughter Debbie (Dwayne) Ash and children Darci (Joel) Digit (Dusty, Bohdan, Alder, Violet) and Destin (Amanda, Liam, Rowan, Finley).

Daughter Rosemary (David) Young and children Andrew, Jackson (Hailey, Knox, Berkley) and Elsie (Nolan, Winry, Willow).
