Jacqueline "Jackie" May (Sandau) Peterson

Jacqueline (Jackie) May Peterson passed away on Aug 24, 2023 at the age of 83.  She is survived by her children, Jim (Caroline) of Maple Creek SK, Diana (Johnny) Chipps, Don (Brigitte) all of Petit-Rocher-Nord NB and her grandchildren Lexie (Andrew) Knudtson of Saskatoon SK, Nolan (Haven) Peterson of Maple Creek SK, Dylan Chipps of NB and a great-grandchild, Quinn Knudtson. She is also survived by six of her sisters & brothers.  Eileen (Bob) Henderson, Marlene (Marwood) Meacock, Vern (late Paula) Sandau, Francis (Audrey) Sandau, Carol (Wayne) Newkirk, Ellen Sandau as well as her sister-in-law’s Carol Sandau and Dorothy (late Gerald) Flannery as well as numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. 

She will be joining her loving husband William “James” Peterson of 61 years, as well as their infant son Bruce. 

She was pre-deceased by her father and mother, Jacob and Margaret Sandau, her parents-in-law, Paul and Mathilda Peterson, her brother Lloyd Sandau and her sister and brothers-in-law Victor Peterson, Bernice and Bob Leslie, and Gerald Flannery. 

Jackie was born in Maple Creek, SK on August 23, 1940 and was raised and started school south west of Maple Creek in the Arbana District.  She has many childhood memories with her family and walking and attending school.  She married James on July 23, 1959 and they enjoyed close to 62 years of quality time together. 

Jackie was a kind, compassionate and loving person, welcoming everyone into her home.  As two of her children left home, she and James invited their nephew, Jeff Henderson, to live with them.  She also enjoyed babysitting many children before they headed off to school.  She must have decided she needed to keep an “eye” on the children, as she finished her working career of many years as a caretaker at the Maple Creek Sidney Street and High Schools.

Jackie had a love for her yard and flower gardens, and spent many hours planning, working and enjoying them.  In her later years, she was fortunate to have the generous help of her niece, Elaine Heinrich, to assist in the garden, helping to move plants, again, again and again.

Jackie enjoyed the assistance and companionship during the last few years from the Home Care team, “I just love those girls”.  She looked forward to their visits each day.   We are forever grateful for the care and compassion that she received these last few weeks in the “Pines” section of South West Integrated Health Facility.  We would also like to thank Carol & Wayne Newkirk for assisting with Jackie’s required care during the latter years.

Jackie was a Christian person, and while she wasn’t quite ready to leave, she was comfortable in her faith that when it was time, she would be in a better place.  She also knew she would be joining James, and trying to get a quarter out of him during their game of ‘Aggravation’, with his scotch in hand, and their dog Boots beside his feet.  

Services will be held at the Mount Calvary Lutheran church in Maple Creek on Aug 30 at 2pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Maple Creek Swimming Pool fund C/O Town of Maple Creek, PO Box 428, as Jackie enjoyed and felt strongly about having access to a community pool.

We shall always miss you mom.  Until we meet again.
