James Lloyd Wilson of Maple Creek passed away June 15th, 2024 at the age of 90 years.
Jim was born in Maple Creek Saskatchewan on September 17th, 1933. He was raised along with his 3 older sisters, Inez, Betty and Mary on the family farm in the Arbana district fifteen miles southwest of Maple Creek. He received his education in a one room school house two miles from home. His parents moved to town when he was 17 leaving Jim to farm alone. He milked cows and sold cream to buy his groceries. In 1954 he had the misfortune of losing his arm in a farming accident. This tragedy led him to the decision of becoming an auctioneer. Jim continued to farm, auction and raise black angus cattle which were his passion. In 1972 he moved east of Piapot after purchasing the 76 Ranch from Alex Walmark. Jim loved ranch life and the first cow he owned was as enjoyable to him as his last. In 1979 he purchased the Maple Creek Auction ring and along with various partners was involved with this business for over 40 years.
Jim was a knowledgeable cattleman and if you needed advice, you could always call on him.
Jim was a man of great character whose dedication to his family and his work was evident in everything he did. His contributions as a rancher and auctioneer were invaluable, and his friendship was a treasure we all cherished. Jim leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Lorna (Barry) Kusler, his son Clay (Janice) Wilson, his son Shay (Sharmon) Wilson; Grandchildren Cheryl (Colin) Phaff, Trevor (Tara) Kusler, Graham Kusler, Lane (Lori) Wilson, Taylor (Demi) Wilson, Carlie (Cody) Ouwejan, Lacey Wilson, Tawny (Colby) Saaler; Great grandsons Stettyn Saaler and Sterling Saaler. Jim is also survived by his companion Gloria Drinkwater and her family Shaun Drinkwater, Nicole Getz and Emerson Getz.
