It is with heavy hearts that the family of James (Jim) Nashiem announce his passing on June 28, 2025.
Dad was the third child, born June 5, 1929, at Elrose, SK to parents Rachel and Lauris Nasheim. A few years later, his parents separated, when Dad was quite young and Rachel eventually married Oscar Nasheim and they had 7 girls. When Dad was 11 years old the family loaded all their farming equipment on the train and relocated to Rolling Hills, AB.
Dad left Rolling Hills at an early age and went east landing in Moose Jaw, SK where he met Mom at Johnstone’s Ice Cream Parlor where she served ice cream. Dad stopped one evening to have an ice cream, there was Dad’s future Wife. Dad was totally summitted with Mom, he had to ask her out on a date! They married on July 5,1952, at Riverhurst, SK. During their marriage Dad worked at various jobs in Moose Jaw, then them move to Riverhurst to farm with his father-in-law, then an operator on the Riverhurst Ferry until December of 1977. When Dad and Mom, the three youngest children, moved to Churchbridge, SK so Dad could pursue his love of farming. Dad, Mom, and the family then moved to Bredenbury, SK where Dad took the job of town foreman.
Our parents were married 67 years when Mom passed away in July of 2019. Eventually Mom and Dad retired and moved first to Frobisher, SK and then to Melville, SK where they lived for 11 years. After Mom’s passing Dad continued to live in their apartment eventually moving to Maple Creek with Shelley, then to assisted living in October 2023 and then into long term care in Maple Creek in May of 2024. He resided there until his passing.
Dad was predeceased by Mom, his oldest son Gerald, his parents, his in-laws and his sisters Emiline, Madeline, Patsy and Marie. He leaves to mourn his 4 children: Shelley (Pete), Rod (Heather), Darla and Corey (Sandy) as well as his daughter-in-law Susan. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and the following siblings, his sisters Gladys, Darlene, Alice, Carol (Rachel) and Dolores.
