Kathleen Germo Obituary

Kathleen Lorraine, known as Katie as a young girl, and Kae through most of her adult years, was born to Joseph & Lydia Hovdestad on February 21,1938 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Kae was the second oldest of 9 children. The early years was a pioneer lifestyle on the farm 50+ KM north of Swift Current, with no electricity, telephone, running water, and transportation and farm work being done with horse. Kae was educated in her early years in the one-room community schoolhouse, Hovdestad School. She was active in sports, especially baseball and hockey, in her youth. Part of her high school years she attended Luther Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, SK, where she met classmate Myron Germo, of Young, SK.

Myron & Kae became re-acquainted in the years after high school and married on August 9, 1958. Through their nearly 58 years of marriage, they lived in various parts of Saskatchewan, moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1968, returning to Saskatchewan in their retirement years.  Together they raised seven children – Linda, Jeff, Darrell, Corlis, Paul, Dan & Kathy – all of whom are married, and have collectively given 27 grandchildren to Myron and Kae.

Kae was primarily a homemaker, with a focus on raising her children, though she worked various office jobs throughout the years, including helping Myron in business.  Faith in Jesus and active involvement in church was central in their home throughout their lives.  Active in various churches over the decades, they were part of the founding team that planted King of Glory Lutheran Church in NE Calgary in the early 1980s.

Kae’s love for Jesus never diminished, nor did her love for her children and grandchildren.  She absolutely cherished any time she had with them over meals, playing games, spending holidays or any other opportunity.  Having many nephews and nieces, Kae loved facilitating weekend sleepovers with the cousins for all her kids, making home a very active and lively place.  Though not one given to many words, she was always sure to let her children and grandchildren know how much she loved them and was proud of them.

Kae was preceded in death by parents Joe (1992) & Lydia (1971), husband Myron (2016), sister Shirley (Vern) Olson & brother Larry (Wendy) Hovdestad, & brother-in-law Ron Olson. She was survived by brothers & sisters Delaine Olson, Lorne (Darlene) Hovdestad, Karen (Don) Moench, Wanda (Larry) Moffat, Terry (John ) Erickson, & Tim (Rondi) Hovdestad; 7 children and spouses, 27 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren – Linda (Mark) Skagen – Rob, Amber (Tim – Hamish & Lucas), Dwayne (Sim - Meerah), Miles ( - Savannah & Drew), Spencer (Jan ’82 – Mar ‘08 – Lennox), Jamie ( - Jamie), Logan (Taylor), Brook; Jeff (Ruth) Germo; Darrell (Olga) Germo – Dennis, Maria, Nicole, & Miron; Corlis (Vince) Leggott – Nash & Ronique; Paul (Kristi) Germo – Kristopher (Sitarah - Raja), Abigail, Trygve, Solveig, Gwenna, Brynn, Leif, & Lydia; Dan (Nancy) Germo – Graham, Cailin & Ellie; Kathy (Raul) – Naomi (Jess), Shoshana (Ben), & Domenic.
