It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Kathleen (Kay) Eccleston. Kay passed away peacefully with family by her side on April 10th, 2025. She was predeceased by her mother and father Nora and Charles O'Brien, husband Leslie Stevens, second husband, Eric Eccleston, sister Ivy (Fred), and brothers, Thomas (Florene) and Pat. Kay is survived by her brother Donald (Sandra), daughter Pat Lanctot (Roger Buziak), grandchildren Wade Lanctot (Jennifer), Alicia Keough (Gallagher), and great-grandchildren Kathleen, Brooklynn, and Madison as well as many nieces and nephews.
Kay was born in Elbow Saskatchewan on December 8, 1927. Kay married Charles Leslie Stevens on December 10, 1949 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She spent the majority of her life enjoying the hard work on the farm alongside her husband Les taking on chores such as calving and cooking large meals for the men during harvest season. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, curling, gardening, playing cards, bingo, crocheting and knitting. Kay loved her grandchildren furiously and she spent countless hours with them teaching them everything from canning to baseball. In her later years at the young age of 80, Kathleen was married to her second husband Eric Eccleston on December 26, 2007. They resided happily together in Maple Creek until Eric's passing in 2020.
Kay will always be remembered for her kindness. Even when unexpected visitors arrived late at night they were given a warm bed and a farmers breakfast. Neighbours, family, friends, or anyone that came to visit, were prepared a hot meal with fresh buns or bread and baking of pies, cookies and candies. Her laugh, her spirit, and generousity will never be forgotten.
May God hold you in his hands.
