Dulcie was born in the Consul area on the farm on January 15, 1930, to parents Gilbert and Annie Mapstone (nee Mapstone). She had six brothers and one sister. Dulcie lived in a big house near Battle Creek and soon learned to garden, make pies, and help with the many chores.
