Leslie Flaig Obituary

LESLIE REUBEN FLAIG was born on June 29, 1955, in Maple Creek, SK and passed away suddenly at his farm that he called home for 45 years on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Leslie was born to parents, Reuben and Phyllis Flaig on June 29, 1955. They welcomed little brother, Randy to the family on March 7, 1958. They lived on the place that Randy continues to live on.

Les has always been a man of his word, and when he said he would buy a yard site and make it a family home, he did just that. Soon after high school, he bought the Mackie home quarter and never left. It was not without its challenges of course, but he didn’t ever complain about the amount of work that would have to be done to make it his own.

In 1978, Leslie ventured off the farm, and went to Australia, where he spent 9 months exploring and learning about the Australian wool industry, which he brought home with big dreams. During this time, he met the love of his life, Bernice Linklater in Adelaide, Australia, who later became his wife.

On June 13, 1980, Les and Bernice were married, and both moved to the farm full time, with plans of building the house that is there today. In October 1982, they welcomed their first daughter, Hilary. As March 1984 rolled around, new house construction underway with the help of family and neighbours, they welcomed daughter #2, Courtney. Not busy enough, now with a toddler and a newborn, a short 15 months later the baby of the family came along. June 1985, Carla was welcomed. This completed the family.

In January 1996, we lost the lady we loved the most and called Mom and who Dad called his wife. Leaving behind 3 young girls and a farm, Les continued in his calm manner, pushing forward. The next decade brought many ups and downs, with the girls graduating and moving out to continue their lives, Les was left to work tirelessly.

In the spring of 2010, Janet moved to the farm to help with the spring work and stayed. On March 10, 2015, Leslie and Janet got married and continued life on the farm. He taught all who came into his life so much. Anywhere from how to do things on the farm, including animal care, to how to fix things, and most of all, how to enjoy nature.

He is predeceased by his parents Reuben and Phyllis Flaig, wife Bernice, father-in-law Ben Linklater, and both sets of grandparents, John & Agnes Flaig and Joseph & Daisy Halladay.

Leslie leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Janet; daughters Hilary, Courtney (Adam) & Carla (Troy); grandchildren Lahnae, McKayla & Zachary and Jaxon; brother Randy (Diane); niece (Sasha); nephew (Justin) and their families; his stepchildren Wade (Katira), Robynn (Dave), & Heather (Mike) and their children: Aleah, Levi, Westin, Carson, Coltyn, Paisley, Stetson, Zaiden, and Zander; as well as many aunts uncles, cousins, friends and extended family.
