Lois Lorraine Perrin was born September 1st, 1926, to her parents Leonard and Mary Perrin. As the second eldest child in a large family of six, she learned at a young age how to pitch in and help no matter what was going on.
Lois always spoke fondly of her childhood days and growing up in the Murraydale community. She always enjoyed telling stories of how her and her siblings would walk, ride, or drive a team and sleigh to school, and of the mischief they would find on the way.
As were conditions for most during the 1930’s, there was not a lot of money or luxuries. There were a lot of times when food and clothing were in high demand for a large family, but to hear her tell it, those were the best days and the happiest of times as they were all together and that was what was important to Lois-family.
Lois received her education at Murraydale School and some mail correspondence classes as well.
On March 15, 1945, she married Cecil Baynton. Cecil and she began their ranching career working with Cecil’s parents and eventually taking over and adding to the holdings on Murraydale. The original Baynton Ranch was purchased from T.B. Long in 1916 by Cecil’s parents John and Evelyn Baynton. They continued to ranch, raising Black Angus cattle until October 4th, 1954 when their home was consumed by a fire. With help from neighbors, they stayed in a trailer until a smaller new home was completed.
On August 22nd, 1955, their son Cecil John (Jack) was born. Due to the lack of roads and the harsh Murraydale winters, they purchased a ranch along Piapot Creek in the fall of 1957 and moved there while keeping the Murraydale ranch for summer grazing.
They continued to ranch together until Cecil’s health began to decline and at that time, their son Jack began to take on the workload. Cecil passed away on September 22nd, 1989.
Lois loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She used to make garbage bags full of bread and buns on a daily basis and hand them out. This was very impressive as she had a very small house with no air conditioning and temperatures in the summer reaching over 30 degrees. Nothing made her happier than having company and preparing a big home cooked meal for a house full of people. If you left her place hungry it was your own fault.
Grandma Lois loved music and could play almost every instrument: piano, guitar, banjo, and everyone's favorite the accordian (
