Margaret Perrin Obituary

Margaret (Marg) Perrin Obituary

Margaret Louise (Marg) (Hanson) Perrin was born on January 25, 1949, in Elrose, Sask. She spent her younger years in Elrose and Saskatoon.

From a young age, Marg had a love of horses and competed in barrel racing and gymkhanas. She rodeoed in the Girls Rodeo Association in 1968 in Western Canada and the United States, most notably in Idaho and Washington, riding bulls and bareback horses.

Marg met Ken Perrin at the Warman, SK Rodeo in 1969. By that fall, they eloped and were married on Oct 3, 1969.

Their first son, Cody, was born on September 22, 1971, and their second son, Justin, was born on January 17, 1974.

Their boys were involved in 4-H and, later, rodeo. One highlight was Justin's trips to the National High School Finals in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Gillette, Wyoming.

Marg and Ken began raising purebred, registered Quarter Horses in 1975 on their ranch in the Cypress Hills.

Marg, always the horsewoman, showed horses at local shows and futurities, particularly in Moose Jaw. One of her many proud showing moments included winning the 3-year-old Non-Pro Reining title in Moose Jaw.

Both Ken and Marg had a keen interest in well-bred horses, and together, they were an original member of the Cypress Hills Horse Breeders & Sale, later the Ranch Country Horse Sale until the present.

Marg’s resume included stints working at the nursing home, Hutchings & Sharp, Cowtown Livestock Sale Ring, and later the Okimaw Ochi Healing Lodge for several years until her retirement.

In 2014, Ken and Marg’s house on their Cypress Hills Perrin Quarter Horses Ranch burned down, and she often spoke of the antiques left to her by her Norwegian ancestors that were lost in the fire. Ken and Marg bought another house and moved to Maple Creek.

Because of her successful history in rodeo, Marg was particularly proud of her two grandsons, William and James, and their accomplishments in the rodeo arenas, college rodeo and the pro circuit.

In the fall of 2024, Marg was recognized and awarded a Gold Card by the Canadian Cowboys Association.

Marg passed away in Shaunavon, SK, Nov 2, 2024.

She leaves behind to mourn her husband of 55 years, Ken Perrin, sons Cody and Justin (Cindy), and their children (grandsons) William and James, and a wealth of relatives, horse clients and friends across the Canadian West.

Marg will be interred at the Maple Creek Cemetery.
