JACOBSON – Melvin Coney Jacobson May 11, 1923 – November 5 2020.
Mel passed away at Swift Current Hospital Thursday November 5, 2020.
Mel was born in Ravenscrag Saskatchewan on May 11, 1923 to Gustav and Mary Jacobson.
He was predeceased by his first wife Joyce on January 23, 1976, his second wife Mary on January 6, 2018, three brothers and six sisters, his oldest daughter Sharon and his sons Frank and Phillip.
Mel worked at various jobs until 1960 when he started work as a mechanic at the Maple Creek Co-op. After retiring from the Co-op he then worked for the Town of Maple Creek for several years and then spent the rest of his years working on small motors in his garage. Mel was an avid baseball coach, player and umpire for many years taking up (and successfully competing at) horseshoes later on. Mel also enjoyed curling, hunting and playing cards. He had many favorite hockey and baseball teams, be they national or local which he enjoyed watching. He was also a great gardener winning awards for his gigantic carrots, turnips and beets. Mel was also a huge Blue Jay fan.
Mel is survived by his children Cliff (Eloise), Wanda (Don), Shannon (Allan), Aaron, Vanessa (Tony) and Son In Law Carl (Sharon), 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
As per Mel’s wishes there will be no funeral or Memorial Service.
The family would like to thank the staff in the ICU and Ward 4 at the Swift Current Hospital for their care and concern of Mel.
