In loving memory of Nesta Edwina Watts Hunter (nee Kitcher) beloved mum, grandma, great grandma, great great grandma, auntie, cousin, and friend.
With grieving hearts we announce the passing of our wonderful, beautiful, and sometimes sassy mum. At one hundred years young, Mum still had a sparkle in her eye, a smile for everyone, and an “I love you” for every family member.
Mum is survived by her children: Kay (Dee) Hershmiller, Gordon (Linda) Hunter, Carol (Sheldon) Barsness, Verna (Murray) Eichorst, Pearl Maser, Lynda Lansdall, Rhonda Hunter (Dennis Anderson), Cheri (Harold) Gerbrandt, Christie Hunter-Wagner (Clay Wagner); 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and special four-legged companion, Lily. She was pre-deceased by her husband, James G. Hunter, sons-in-law Robert Lansdall and Marvin Maser, and granddaughter, Amber Dawn Barsness.
Mum was born on July 12th, 1924 at Newlands Cottage near Beaulieu in the New Forest in Hampshire, England, the only child of Edwin and Flory Kitcher. During WWII, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) where she became a truck driver. She met Jim Hunter who was in the RCAF bomber command. They married in Chichester, England and two years later, with one year old Kay and expecting baby number two, Mum, as a war bride, came to Canada. They lived in many places following Dad’s teaching career while also farming at Waldeck, Sask. The farm days were happy ones and they raised nine children. To say that mum loved her family is an understatement.
In 1997, they moved to Maple Creek where Mum continued to do the things she loved: knitting, gardening, baking (no one made buns like Mum!), bird watching, and caring for grandchildren.
On July 12th, 2024, Mum celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends. We were dressed in pink, her favourite colour.
On October 24th, 2024, Mum left this world, again surrounded by her loving family. She was deeply loved by all who met her, and she will be forever missed.
