Norma Forbes Obituary
Norma Isabell Forbes passed away peacefully at the age of 99 at Maple Creek Long Term Care on February 4, 2025.
She is survived by her three daughters Gail (Dave) Haines, Terry (Murdoch) Carriere and Lois Forbes; her five grandchildren, Chris (Lisa) Haines, Leigh (Bryan) Haines-Miller, Amy Carriere, Dana (Adrian Waskewitch) Carriere, and Megan (Jeff Siry) Dillon; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Norma is predeceased by her husband Harry (Soddie) Forbes, her parents James and Mary Anderson, her sister Elsie Wilson, her brother Donald Anderson and another brother who died shortly after birth.
Norma was born and raised in the Woodrow, Saskatchewan area. She attended teacher’s college in Moose Jaw and taught school for several years in the Maple Creek area. Norma married Harry (Soddie) Forbes on December 29, 1948, and they bought a ranch in the Cypress Hills area.
Norma worked hard alongside Soddie to make the ranch successful. She could often be seen driving tractor, hauling grain, pitching bundles and stacking bales. She also milked cows, maintained a large garden, raised chickens and had her own sheep herd.
She was a good cook and baker, making delicious home-made bread, pies, cookies and other family favourites. She was an excellent shot with a .22 rifle and spent many hours shooting gophers.
In later years after moving to Maple Creek she enjoyed crib tournaments, playing whist and taking part in bus tours to various events throughout the western provinces. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to the Maritimes, Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, England and France.
Norma’s family would like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Cypress Lodge and Paradise Pines Unit, as well as the medical staff at Maple Creek Hospital.
As per Norma’s wishes a private graveside service will be held at a later date.
