Robert Roger Eccleston

Robert (Bob) Roger Eccleston was born July 10, 1928. He was the third child born to William and Mary Eccleston. He had two brothers George, Eric and twin sisters Eileen and Phyllis.

Bob Eccleston went to public school at Petain up to Grade 10 and spent one year in Grade 11 at Jasper School in Maple Creek where he boarded. He then took an agricultural course one winter in Saskatoon before coming back to the farm where he began farming with Brother Eric.

Bob married Dorothy Anderson, a schoolteacher from Richmound, Sask, on July 12, 1952. Dorothy was the last to be born of a family of eleven children to Henry and Margaret Anderson of Richmound. She took public school at a country school near the farm and High School in Richmound, then she went to Teacher’s College in Saskatoon for one year.

There were three children born to Dorothy and Bob, Cameron (Deb) Eccleston, Joanne (Larry Peterson) and Trina (Craig Bellavance). They had eight grandchildren Andrea, Rob (Erin) and Jim (Angie) Eccleston; Torban Peterson, Whitney Peterson (Paolo Varona); Cole, Jace and Chloe Bellavance and 6 great grandchildren.

Bob and Dorothy sold their part of the farm to Cam and Deb in 1993. In 1996, they bought a house in Maple Creek on Chinook Place, where they lived until 2007 when they bought a suite in the Creekside Estates. Dorothy spent a short time at the nursing home in Maple Creek and passed away January 9, 2014. Bob moved from Creekside estates in 2022 and spent a short time in Assisted Living before spending his last days in long term care in Maple Creek.

He was active in the community: 4-H leader for 10 years; Piapot General Store board; Skull Creek Curling Rink construction and maintenance; Agriculture Extension Board; Piapot History book research and assembly; and the Piapot Lions Club.

Bob was proud of his Charolais X cattle herd. He spent many hours in the shop designing, building, repairing and restoring.

Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2024.

There will be a memorial at the Piapot Legion Hall on August 24 at 2:00 pm.
