Obituary

Ruth Elma Watson was born on a farm NW of Consul, Saskatchewan, on October 21, 1925, to Tom and Vestel Watson. Ruth and her twin sister, Florence, were third in line of 12 children.
When Ruth was 12 years old, she and her family were devastated by the loss of their dear mother, then a few years later, their father also passed away.

All of Ruth’s siblings stuck together through the good and the bad times to keep their family together. Eventually, they all acquired jobs to help with the financial responsibilities.
Ruth worked at housekeeping and childcare for many families in the Vidora district.

Ruth married Harry Lewis on March 20, 1947. From this union came 6 children. They farmed south of Robsart until moving to Consul in 1980 where they did odd jobs around town. In 1989, they retired to Maple Creek, then on to Swift Current in 2003.

Ruth was very active in her younger days, playing ball with the Robsart ladies and curling. She loved to crochet and to play bingo, but most of all, she loved being with her family. She would spend hours smiling and listening to everyone.

Ruth passed away on December 21, 2022, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan at the age of 97, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her 6 children, sons Larry (Marty), Glen (Linda), and daughters, Wendy (Keith Pierce) Cathy (Dick Reesor), Barb (Scott Sanderson), Debbie (Larry McMillan), 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, brother, Edward Watson, and sister-in-law, Agnes Watson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Harry, special grandson, Jeffery Pierce, her parents, Tom and Vestel Watson, brothers and sisters, Gordon Watson, Dora Palmer, Florence Kelly, Marion Brown, Bernell Johnson, Bob Watson, and Betty La Face, three siblings at birth, along with many brothers and sisters in law.

The funeral service was held January 3, 2023, in the Maple Creek Legion Hall, with Pastor Dave Manley officiating.

Pallbearers were Wade Phair, Casey Ziegler, Kirk Haviland, Lane Sanderson, Colton Knutson, and Blake Sanderson.

Interment will take place at the Maple Creek cemetery.
