Sadie Briggs Obituary

Sadie was born in the Kincorth district on May 15, 1924 to Lars and Sarah Larson. She was one of 8 children. She had many happy memories of growing up there, spending time with neighbours and going to dances in Hatton.

In 1952 she married Lorne Briggs and they had 4 children; Bev, Donna, Will and Jim.

At a young age, Sadie worked for several families helping with housework and children. Later she worked for Medalta Potteries in Medicine Hat.

Upon returning to Maple Creek, she worked as a waitress for several years, first at the Star Cafe then at the Crossroads.

She enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends. She was fortunate enough to go to places like Las Vegas, Minnesota, Nanaimo and the World’s Fair in Spokane.

Some of her favourite pastimes were playing bingo, going to the casino, gardening and baking.

The main focus of Sadie’s life was her family. Many hours were spent around the kitchen table having coffee, visiting and eating her delicious banana bread. Spending time with grandma always meant playing games, cards and having cinnamon toast for breakfast.

Sadie was blessed with good health and was able to remain in her own home until she was 95 years old.

She passed away peacefully on September 6, 2019.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children Bev (Walt) Steinke of Medicine Hat, Donna Hough (Harley Hanchor), Will (Brenda) Briggs both of Maple Creek and Jim (Denise) Briggs of Winnipeg, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, a brother-in-law Elmer Forbes of Maple Creek and a sister-in-law Helen Briggs of Nanaimo, B.C.

Sadie was predeceased by her husband Lorne; grandson Mike; parents Lars and Sarah; sisters Alice, Olga, Mary, Violet; brothers John, Lloyd and Chester.

The funeral was held Friday, Sept. 13, 2019 at Binkley’s Funeral Chapel with Captain Ed Dean officiating.
