William Dietrich Obituary

William Mathew Dietrich, beloved husband for 68 years of Anne Dietrich (Scherger), passed away peacefully in the Leader Hospital, Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 93 years.  He leaves to cherish his memory two children, Darren (Yvonne) Dietrich, and Redge Dietrich; grandchildren, Brandon (Jodi) Dietrich and Mikayla (Josh) Miller; great grandchildren, Silver Dietrich & Bridget Miller and step great grandchildren Austin & Ruby Janke. He cherished all his grandchildren. Brothers Stan (Sheila) Dietrich, Eric (Rosemary) Dietrich and sister Marion Betcher, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Caroline Dietrich; son Perry Dietrich; daughter Pam Dietrich; brother Joe Dietrich, and sisters Ella Riess & Clara Maier.

William (Bill) was born July 13, 1930 in the Empress, Alberta Hospital and grew up on the family farm near Mendham, Saskatchewan. In his early years he moved to Regina, Saskatchewan with his parents and later on met Anne where they would get married on August 2, 1955 at the St. Anthony's church in Mendham. They began to start their family, eventually having four children; Pam, Perry, Darren & Redge. They created a beautiful life together on the family farm. Later on, they moved off the farm and made their new home in Leader, Saskatchewan.

Some of the greatest joys in his life was his love for fishing including Keeley Lake trips, Green Lake trips & simply just going to the river. He enjoyed hunting with family and friends and spending time in the butcher shop making sausage. He was a devoted farmer and also loved raising his cattle. Bill was passionate about his birds, you could always find exotic animals such as peacocks, guinea hens, pheasants, ducks, turkeys and all sorts of funny looking chickens running around the farm yard. Bill loved baseball, playing in his younger years and eventually being inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays games, as well as curling and wrestling on TV. You could always hear him humming a tune, especially when working on his daily crossword puzzles. He was a card shark, always beating everyone in a game of cribbage. Bill was dedicated to the church, even watching mass on TV if they were stormed in at the farm. The farm was where his most treasured memories were made.
